The FHM’s #GivingTuesdayNow
May 5, 2020 @ 12:00 am - 11:55 pm
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of unity taking place on May 5, 2020, as a response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Please join the movement and give – each Tuesday and every day – whether it’s some of your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in your local community. All donations made online today at TheFHM.org/support/donate-now will be put to immediate use by providing educators and students with quality resources to conduct Holocaust education in virtual classrooms.
COVID-19 has had a profound impact on everyone. When The Florida Holocaust Museum closed to the public in mid-March, we knew that school districts in Tampa Bay and around the state would continue looking for us to provide state-mandated Holocaust education as they transitioned to virtual classrooms. We delivered! In addition to directly contacting the 637 schools and 1,460 teachers who worked with us in 2019, a special section was created on our website in an effort to reach those outside the Tampa Bay Area who may require resources. These resources and tools are being offered free of charge and are accessible online: TheFHM.org/learn/virtual-resources.
None of this would be possible without the support of people like you! At this moment in history, we all need the lessons that Holocaust Survivors have shared with us: the lessons of hope and resilience. During this time of fear and uncertainty, our commitment to never forget and to educate remains strong. History has shown an uptick in prejudice and bigotry during destabilizing events. At the present, it is critical to teach about the consequences of unchecked hatred, and the inherent worth and dignity of people of all races and cultures.
The recent CARES ACT provides special tax consideration for donations that you made during the crisis. If you take the standard deduction and do not itemize your giving, you can donate $300 to The FHM in addition to your standard deduction. For those who do itemize, the new law temporarily lifts the limits on charitable giving for 2020. Therefore contributions can be deducted up to 100% of adjusted gross income. Please consult with a financial professional for more information.
