On display September 2, 2017 – December 31, 2017
The paintings, drawings, prints, and artist’s books by Murray Zimiles are graphic statements meant to engage and propel the viewer into a whirlwind of fire and devastation. In these powerful works, Zimiles deals with issues like the absence of God during the Holocaust and the absence of civilization. Zimiles is the stepson of Holocaust Survivor and felt obligated as an artist to deal with the subject.
Murray Zimiles was born in 1941. He received his BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Illinois and his MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Cornell University. He received further art training at the Atelier Clot-Bramson and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in many private and public collections such as the Brooklyn Museum; the Jewish Museum, NY; the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Museum of Modern Art, Haifa; and the National Collection, Washington DC.
