Kristallnacht Commemoration

November 9, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

The commemoration ceremony will include prayers and candle-lighting. After the ceremony, the Museum will present Music of Resistance and Survival, a Kristallnacht remembrance concert that combines music and educational presentations to engage audiences in meaningful Holocaust remembrance. The Music of Resistance and Survival project was created by Dr. Laurence Sherr, a composer of Holocaust remembrance music, a scholar specializing in music of the Holocaust, and the son of a survivor. The concert will feature Holocaust songs of resistance and survival from the ghettos, camps, and partisans followed by Sherr’s new cello sonata based on those songs. Dr. Sherr’s interspersed commentary and slide show will help connect audiences to the creators of the songs.

The performers will be Theresa Villani, cello, Colleen Schmitt, piano, and Gerald Arnold, tenor.

Free and open to the public.

Project sponsorship for the Music of Resistance and Survival project is provided by SNCF America, Inc.
