The Soap Myth Tampa – Starring Ed Asner!

April 15, 2019

April 15th at Tampa JCC and Federation

The Florida Holocaust Museum, along with The Tampa JCCs & Federation and the Sarasota Opera House, are thrilled to present The Soap Myth on Monday, April 15 at the Bryan Glazer Family JCC in Tampa and on Tuesday, April 16 at the Sarasota Opera House!

The Soap Myth stars Ed Asner, Tovah Feldshuh, Ned Eisenberg, and Liba Vaynberg in the live readings of Jeff Cohen’s play, directed by Pam Berlin.

The Soap Myth takes place more than a half century after the end of WWII when a young journalist sets out to write an article about a cantankerous Holocaust Survivor and his crusade regarding the Nazi atrocity of soap.

The Soap Myth dramatizes the friendship that develops between a young Jewish journalist (Annie Blumberg) and a cantankerous Holocaust Survivor (Milton Saltzman) on a crusade about including “soap” in Holocaust museums – Did the Nazis make soap from the corpses of murdered Jews?  Along the way the play grapples with the pernicious evil of antisemitism masquerading as Holocaust denial. The play tackles such timely and provocative themes as how a survivor survives surviving, who has the right to write history and how do we determine the truth.

Seven-time Emmy Award and five-time Golden Globe Award winner Ed Asner is beloved for such legendary roles as Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Santa Claus in the Will Farrell comedy Elf, and Carl Fredrickson in the smash animated feature Up. This marks the third year that he will perform the role of Holocaust Survivor Milton Saltzman in The Soap Myth.
