A Trunk Full of Truth

How The FHM Delivers Holocaust Education
to Classrooms Nationwide

teaching trunks on shelvesAcross Florida and throughout the country, The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) is helping teachers bring the Holocaust to life in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.

The FHM’s Teaching Trunks are traveling educational kits designed to help teachers introduce students to the history and human impact of the Holocaust.

Each trunk contains carefully curated books, lesson plans, timelines, maps, and primary source materials.

They’re tailored to specific grade levels—elementary, middle, and high school—ensuring that students are introduced to these difficult topics in ways that are developmentally appropriate.

More than just educational supplies, the Teaching Trunks are gateways into deeper understanding. They help students explore stories of survival, resistance, and humanity.

According to educators, these trunks help spark critical thinking and compassion in the classroom. And they’re offered free of charge to schools across Florida and beyond.

Because Holocaust education should never be out of reach.

Teaching Trunks Overview

We live in a time when Holocaust knowledge is fading. In fact, 63% of young Americans don’t know that 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. Even fewer can name a single concentration camp.

At the same time, antisemitism and hate speech are rising—online and in everyday life.

One teacher put it best:

“This trunk was the spark that lit a fire in my classroom.”

And that’s why the Teaching Trunks are so vital.

They give educators tools to teach truth, build empathy, and help students connect the lessons of the past to the responsibilities of the present.

These trunks help fulfill The FHM’s mission: to honor the memory of those who suffered and to inspire future generations to act with courage and conscience.

One trunk can reach an entire classroom of young minds. Multiply that across the state—and now the country—and the impact grows exponentially.

How You Can Help Support the 2025 Trunks of Hope Campaign

To ensure these trunks continue reaching classrooms, The Florida Holocaust Museum is asking for your support.

Now through September 15, your gift to the 2025 Trunks of Hope Campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, thanks to a generous gift from Amy & Michael Southard through their foundation, Crofton Cares.

That means a $50 gift becomes $100. A $100 gift becomes $200. Every matched donation helps The FHM ship more trunks, reach more students, and train more educators.

These trunks don’t just educate—they empower.

Every student deserves the chance to learn the truth.

Every teacher deserves the tools to teach it.
